As you get more wear out of your ute tray, you might find that the corner post latches will become tighter. This can be a result of change in weather conditions and dirt and debris that comes from driving on dirt roads and construction sites.
As the latches get tighter, it becomes harder to remove them when you need to open the tray and load or unload your gear. We’re going to teach you how to lubricate your corner post latches to make it a smooth process every time, all in just three simple steps.
Before you begin the lubrication process, you will need the following tools handy:
- 9/16 Deep socket
- Penetrating lubricant
Step 1
Lower the drop side of your tray and spray a small amount of penetrating lubricant between the corner post latch mounting boss and spring washer/locking nut.
Step 2
Turn the latch three to four times to work the lubricant on all parts of the latch.
Step 3
Grab your 9/16 deep socket and tighten the latch. You do this by holding the socket and turning the front of the latch clockwise. Ensure there is no rattling with the latch in the fully closed position by pulling back and forth on the drop side with the latch engaged.
Also ensure that there is ample clearance for the latch to rotate on the end plate without causing any damage to the end plate.
Step 4
Repeat this same process for all latches and raise drop sides on your tray.
It’s that simple! We recommend lubricating your corner post latches every couple of months to ensure the longevity of your Fleet Trades tray.
